Even though Ma Ying-jeou has been known by many names such as "the phony pony" or Ma Ying-joke within Taiwan, his public relations team has managed to keep most of this hidden from those outside Taiwan where he is mistakenly touted as a great peacemaker.

But the Economist story on "Ma the Bumbler" blew away the facade that Ma had been able to keep outside Taiwan; now as more news comes out, people can see that Ma is not only known as a bumbler, but the citizens of Taiwan are also throwing shoes at him.

This happened when Ma was speaking on Human Rights Day; the sense of hypocrisy in his speaking on this day was too much for a number of citizens and shouts of protest came from the audience as well as at least one shoe. The image is broken and what is known in Taiwan is now being realized outside as well. Tomorrow I will post wht lay at the heart of the ineptitude of Ma's administration.
